Good Neighbors by Faith Barnidge: Miramonte team helps homeless family
By Faith Barnidge

Orinda's Miramonte High School baseball players and their families recently collected furniture and household necessities
requested by a SHELTER, Inc. homeless family transitioning to an apartment in Antioch. The family of five had lost its
housing due to a medical crisis.

Baseball Moms Valerie Mollahan and Anna Tague learned of the need through Grateful Gatherings, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to providing gently used furniture and household items for people transitioning out of homelessness
or poverty.

The Miramonte baseball volunteers collected, sorted, delivered and set up the entire apartment for the family, and were
present to welcome the family when they arrived to see their newly furnished apartment in Antioch for the first time.
Miramonte baseball team and families are already looking for another date to partner with Grateful Gatherings and one of
their partner agencies to help another family in need. SHELTER, Inc. also partners with the Walnut Creek United Methodist
Church Extended Family Move-in, furnishing homes for formerly homeless families.
