Nine-Year Old Runs Lafayette Reservoir; Raises More Than $9,000 for Local Non-profit

Think that just one person can’t make a difference?

Kristi Conner was walking in San Francisco and became very concerned about the homeless people she saw sleeping in doorways. She could not understand why they were not housed and thus moved her to action.

Kristi chose SHELTER, Inc., a local nonprofit that helps prevent and end homelessness for families and individuals in the county, as the organization that she would trust to help her change lives.

Last year, she created a fundraising run to raise awareness about the homeless families in Contra Costa County. Dozens of her supporters donated more than $3,000 to sponsor her 3-mile run at the Lafayette Reservoir.

After her success in 2011, Kristi recruited five friends to run with her this year. Just this passed Sunday, August 19, Kristi and her friends completed three miles and raised $9,250 for homeless families in their community!

By the way, Kristi and her friends, Ella Dunderdale, Cole Hink, Gabby Sandberg, Nick Pearson and Luke Pearson are nine years old.

Congratulations goes out to a wonderful group of kids who set aside their Sunday to make an impact on the lives of so many.
