About Volunteering

Every year, thousands of volunteers donate their time and talents to making a difference in the lives of homeless families and individuals in our programs.From cooking dinner at the family shelter to sorting donations, there are always opportunities for groups and individuals to get involved for a single day or on an ongoing basis. 

How to become a volunteer

  1. We have volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals throughout the year. Please view our volunteer opportunities and holiday volunteer opportunities to see how you can help.

  2. Please download and complete the Volunteer Application Form and email to theresitag@shelterinc.org or mail to SHELTER, Inc. Attn.: Theresita Gonzalez, 1333 Willow Pass Rd., Suite 206, Concord, CA.

  • CAN I START MY OWN VOLUNTEER PROJECT?

    Yes! SHELTER, Inc. has opportunities for individuals and groups to initiate a project. For more information, check out our Volunteer Opportunities page. If you have an idea for a project you do not see listed, please contact Theresita Gonzalez at Theresitag@shelterinc.org.

  • CAN MY ORGANIZATION, GROUP OR SCHOOL PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT?

    Yes, volunteers come in many group types, from church groups to corporate groups, as well as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and teens from the local high schools. If your group is interested in volunteering, we will try our best to match you with an appropriate project. Please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page for more information on seasonal and group projects.

  • IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT TO VOLUNTEER?

    We accept young volunteers (12 years old and younger) as long as there is an adult/guardian supervising during the volunteer project.
