Development Associate- Donor Relations
ORGANIZATION: SHELTER, Inc. is an independent, community-based non-profit organization created in 1986 to lead Contra Costa County's effort to eliminate homelessness. We now serve Contra Costa, Solano and Sacramento Counties.
MISSION: To prevent and end homelessness among low-income, homeless, and disadvantaged families and individuals by providing housing services, support and resources that lead to self-sufficiency.
PURPOSE of ROLE: This position is responsible for the daily operation of SHELTER, Inc. fundraising database, which includes keeping accurate donor records, gift entry and processing, gift acknowledgement and reporting, and the implementation of tactics to raise contributed income through events and direct mail appeals.
Maintain DonorPerfect database system and ensure that all donor and constituent records are up-to-date.
Process and oversee gift entry and management of all charitable, in-kind, matching, third-party and planned gifts.
Generate gift acknowledgment letters and ensure that donors are acknowledged using timely, effective and consistent methods.
Assist in the coordination of donor prospect research and updating the prospect database.
Responsible for the administration of DonorPerfect with other database systems and payment processing platforms; during special event seasons, reconcile data between systems maintaining contacts and financial integrity.
Data Output, Mailing Lists and Direct Mail Coordination – design and implement database queries in response to requests for information providing timely and accurate records, reports and lists (mailing lists and labels, volunteer call sheets, donor lists, etc.)
Responsible for ongoing monthly and year-end revenue reconciliations and audit requests with the Finance Team; produce financial, statistical and demographic reports as needed.
Serve as SHELTER, Inc.’s expert go-to person for the development database and third party systems utilized in the execution of appeals, including providing training for volunteers, new employees, etc. and assisting this group on an ongoing basis in their use of DonorPerfect and other systems.
Manage utilization and create online framework of event software and other software to support SHELTER, Inc. events and programs (event sales, registration, processing and stewarding all monetary gifts to the event)
Support a range of pre and post event tasks for SWING, Gala, and other cultivation events and participate as needed. Provide leadership and facilitation of special event planning and logistics with primary responsibility for event execution.
Conduct outreach and recruitment, structure, communications, and logistical coordination in the establishment of a young professional’s cohort to grow the pipeline of donors and volunteers.
Serve as back up and support for Volunteer Coordinator in accepting in-kind donations from Reception.
Additionally, this position supports the development team with administrative and support duties as needed.

Strong interpersonal skills, with analytical skills, positive demeanor, and strong desire to provide a quality customer service to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience.
2-3 years of professional work experience
Demonstrated ability to work within a time-sensitive, highly participatory and collaborative environment with strong team orientation
Must drive personal car on behalf of agency business and have a DMV record that permits driver to be insured under SHELTER, Inc.’s automobile coverage.
Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Bachelor’s degree in social science or other relevant field
2 -3 years of Development and fundraising experience
DonorPerfect, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce or other relevant software experience.
Experience working in diverse settings with people across all socio-economic spectrums and a wide variety of personalities and roles - staff, residents, local agencies, contractors, lenders, etc.
