Temporary Shelter Attendant - Concord
PURPOSE of ROLE: This position is responsible for the day-to-day needs of all participants while they’re residing in a temporary shelter-in-place facility.
FACILITIES & SECURITY
Monitor facility, making rounds every 30-60 minutes. Assure a clean, safe and healthy environment, verified by the initialing of the Perimeter Check sign off sheet.
Identify and address hazardous and potentially hazardous items and situations. Respond to all emergencies, as well as all emergency preparation drills by prioritizing human life and the safeguard of property to the best extent possible.
Identify, log, and contact the Program Manager regarding all facility maintenance and repair issues, this may also include communicating with the vendor/owner of the facility directly.
Maintain a daily sign-in/out sheet of all shelter participants.
Provide access to the buildings and surrounding areas of those identified persons cleared for a particular task as approved by Program Manager.
Inventory supplies and furnishings regularly, noting items needed and requesting and obtaining needed items from donors and/or benefactors in collaboration with Program Manager.
GUEST VOLUNTEER AND PROGRAM SUPPORT
Provide on-site coverage for 24/7 shelter operations.
Maintain confidentiality of participants at all times; maintain a safe environment.
Observe and report behavior(s) that violate guidelines or create an unhealthy environment in daily log; complete incident reports and contact supervisor as needed and or appropriate. An end of shift report should be written and emailed directly to the Program Manager to determine end of shift completion.
Handle disputes between participants in a positive professional manner and diffuse potential stressful/hostile situations prior to occurrence whenever possible.
Respond to phone calls made to shelter facility.
Assist with serving and meal preparation as needed, including assisting volunteer groups that prepare meals.
Provide resource items (i.e. toiletries, diapers, laundry soap, donations, etc.) as requested by participants, noting items in program log and taking responsibility to obtain and/or notify Program Manager of needed items.
Administrative tasks as needed, such as updating rosters, photocopying, data entry and creating Word and Excel documents.
The completion and entering of all data/reporting, staff logs, documentation associated, and routine email management required by/of the Shelter Attendant, and as assigned by Shelter Supervisor.
Attend all on-site and outside meetings and trainings as assigned.
Complete all Relias E-Learnings as assigned on or before due date.
Other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate participants available only during the evening or on weekends.
Experience working in diverse settings with people across all socio-economic spectrums and a wide variety of personalities and roles - staff, residents, local agencies, contractors, lenders, etc.
Must obtain and maintain ServSafe certification.
Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Must pass a TB test.
Associates Degree with emphasis in social services, psychology or related fields
Experience working with low-income and/or homeless populations
First Aid/CPR training
Access to reliable personal transportation required, including a DMV record that permits driver to be insured under SHELTER, Inc.’s automobile coverage.
