HOUSING ASSISTANCE

We offer temporary and permanent housing opportunities to homeless and low-income residents of Contra Costa County. 

To request housing assistance call (925) 338-1038 from 9am to 4pm Monday - Friday (except holidays). If you are receiving services from a county or nonprofit agency, please contact your case worker for a referral to one of SHELTER, Inc.'s programs.

Emergency Family Shelter

We operate an emergency shelter in Martinez for homeless families with children under the age of 18. The facility houses families who stay for an average of three months during which they work with an onsite case manager toward stable housing. Families living onsite have 24-hour access, a community kitchen and play areas for the children.  Supportive services include: employment services, educational services, mental health therapy and parenting workshops.

Temporary Housing

  • FAMILIES

    We have temporary supportive housing in Pittsburg for homeless families to get back on their feet. Families pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income in rent and regularly meet with a case manager to locate and secure permanent housing. Supportive services include employment services, educational services, mental health therapy and parenting workshops.

  • SINGLE ADULTS

    We offer temporary subsidized housing in apartment units scattered throughout the county for single adults in our programs. Participants pay rent equal to 30% of their adjusted monthly income and receive case management and support services.

Permanent Affordable Housing

We offer permanent supportive housing services for the following homeless Contra Costa residents:

  • Individuals and families who have a dual diagnosis of mental health and chronic substance abuse
  • Individuals and families with HIV\AIDS
  • Individuals with chronic substance abuse problems

We do not maintain a waiting list, please call (925) 338-1038 from 9 am to 4pm Monday - Friday (except holidays) for availability.

Some of our programs are funded, in part, by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.
