Volunteer Opportunities

We offer volunteer opportunities for individuals, families and groups of all kinds. Volunteering at SHELTER, Inc. provides one step forward in ending homelessness.

Opportunities include cooking dinner, working on building improvement and landscaping projects, assisting with children's activities and coordinating donation drives. Learn more about each of these opportunities below and fill out the volunteer application form to get started!

Volunteer Projects

Volunteer projects are available to groups and individuals. To coordinate a group volunteer event please contact Yareth.rodriguez@shelterinc.org.

Donation Drives

Gather your friends, family and neighbors to create and lead a donation drive for homeless families. Needed items include baby items, gift cards for food, toiletries, holiday gifts, and bathroom starter kits.

Office Assistance

Do you like office work? Need office experience while searching for a job? If so, we have an immediate need for volunteers to help us on a few office projects. Set your own schedule throughout the work day, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Building Improvement and Landscaping Projects

Projects such as painting, landscaping, cleaning, and helping to furnish units for families are needed throughout the year.

Group Meal Projects

We welcome groups to prepare and serve dinners at our Family Shelter in Martinez. Groups can choose a meal from a provided menu (all ingredients are provided), prepare, and serve meals for approximately 20-35 people. If your group is interested, please use this SignUpGenius to schedule a date and time.

With the completion of the Community Hall at our Beck Avenue Navigation Center in Fairfield, we now welcome groups to serve lunch and dinner. Please select your date for this Fairfield volunteer opportunity.

Children’s Activities

When normal activity resumes, projects are held on-site at our shelter locations or various field trip locations. We plan events for the children who live at our sites to enrich their lives. The projects include movie days, picnics, sports games, going to the park, arts-and-crafts days, museums, and holiday parties. We need chaperones for the children to help share their experience.

Can my organization, group or school participate in a project?

Absolutely! If your group is interested in volunteering, we will match you with a project appropriate for your group If you have an idea for a project you do not see listed, or to coordinate a date and activity that meets your groups objectives, please contact Yareth.rodriguez@shelterinc.org.

Can I start my own volunteer project?

Yes! SHELTER, Inc. has opportunities for individuals and groups to initiate a project. If you have an idea for a project you do not see listed, please contact Yareth.rodriguez@shelterinc.org.

We welcome young volunteers (12 years old and younger) as long as there is an adult/guardian supervising during the project.
